1550 Chairs Stacked Between Buildings ~ http://bit.ly/yNRVxq

“1550 Chairs Stacked Between Two City Buildings” is an installation by Doris Salcedo at Istanbul Biennial. In 2002, Salcedo placed 280 chairs at the Palace of Justice in Bogotá “to pay homage to those killed here in a failed guerrilla coup seventeen years earlier.” In 2003, she filled the Istanbul Biennial space between two buildings with 1,550 chairs “evoking the masses of faceless migrants who underpin our globalised economy.”

Salcedo’s work provokes many questions after a first look, but she does provide answers to the mystery. The approach she takes to portraying these messages are unique and bold although she is using everyday objects like chairs.

Photo

My new venture - Tooth Jewellery

After a rummage through my mothers Jewellery box and finding some of my milk teeth I decided to use them in some work.
I have now become quite obsessed with using teeth in my work - when attached to the body teeth are not repulsive at all so why when they fall out or are removed are they deemed grotesque?
As a child the ritual of putting your freshly fallen tooth under your pillow and hoping that the Tooth Fairy would come and leave a shiny coin in return always fascinated me.

What an earth would the Tooth Fairy do with all these teeth?

My work is now available to purchase at Manchester Craft and...

My work is now available to purchase at Manchester Craft and Design Centre through Designers Eclectic. http://www.craftanddesign.com/studios/designerseclectic

An unconventional bookshelf created by New York-based product...

An unconventional bookshelf created by New York-based product designer Niko Economidis organises your books into what has been read and what hasn’t. 2006 | Nadine Sterk

Where there is light, there is life. When you switch on
the lamp, it provides you with light. You provide it with
the generating power it needs to grow.

Nadine’s work is a fusion of the natural, the technical and the emotional world.
She finds in nature’s functions, and solutions an endless wealth of ideas.

My Uncle made a stool just like this one when he was at school....

My Uncle made a stool just like this one when he was at school. I remember sitting on it when I was little. I wonder if he still has it. I really liked the soft, shiny bright orange leather that he used for the seat.
